This year Hot Chocolate had to go virtual, so a friend of mine put together a small event. I will mostly focus on Hot Chocolate's end of it. They let us know early on that the event would be virtual, and the emails were frequent and informative. I got my swag the week before the event so I was able to bring it to the mini event that my friend put on. I even got an email letting me know that my swag was on the way. They sent us hot cocoa mix, chocolates, a jacket, a bib, and the bling, all in a reusable drawstring backpack. The facebook event page was interactive during race day, and I even won a race entry for a future race for answering one of their posts! overall a great event, and I am looking forward to doing it live again in 2022!!

I did this race as a BibRavePro. This was our second year doing this race, and the swag was on point. Metal water bottle, long sleeved tech jacket, bling, and a chance to add a collar or bandana! Memphis is proudly wearing his collar now! Plenty of email support keeping us apprised of timelines and swag delivery, which arrived quickly so that I had it for the race. The swag was all really great quality, and was packed well for shipping. I really enjoy this event, and it gives us a reason to take Memphis out for long jogs! We hang the bling over his food and water bowls, since he earned them! So much fun, I highly recommend!

I ran this virtual race as a BibRave Pro.
Virtual races are great because you pick the time, the day, the course, the scenery. It does limit what i can review for you, so I will do my best!
Registration was a breeze! I registered before many of my friends, and then we formed a team, and it was easy to add me to the group! This earned us free hats! score! You could also add a visor or socks with capes when you registered.
The emails were very informative and swag shipped out timely, I had it way before I did my actual runs!
The swag included a shopping bag, 2 wrist bands, medal, and fleecy jacket. Really great swag!!
Highly recommend!!!

I ran this race as a BibRave Pro.
The race had crazy good communication leading up to the race. So many emails and posts to their event page, with all the pertinent details.
The expo was smaller this year but still smooth like clockwork. Bib pickup was a breeze, next was legacy swag (mug, chocolate, and bonus medal) and then the cozy hooded jacket. I’m bummed they didn’t have thumbholes this year but that’s totally a first world problem!
Oh, and I had to bump down to the 5k a couple months ago and the process was smooth and easy. So simple!
Race day I parked near the convention center due to after race plans, but there were tons of places to park near the finisher village. Easy peasy.
The race started on time. It took us about 9 minutes to get to the start since we were last corral, but it’s chip timed so that doesn’t matter.
The race was super hilly. This is expected for any charlotte the so no surprise there. Lots of neighborhoods and it finished up running back into Charlotte which is always beautiful. The last half mile is all motivational signs which I always love.
There was one water/Nuun stop which also had chocolate although I almost missed it! That would have been tragic!
The finish was well organized, although somehow I managed to finish along with some divas who hogged the cameraman so no feee photos for me! I have to be more aware next time!
I got my water bottle, bling, and headed for me chocolate mug. This year they were heavy duty compostable cardboard. Love it! We are our yummies and there were some photo opps as well.
Great race and run very well! Looking forward to year 4!

I’m super sad to write this review, and I’m hoping I can come back and amend it later.
We were offered a few times to pick up our bib and shirt in advance but then we were told last minute that the shirts were not ready so I held off and went last minute to get my stuff. They didn’t have my size and tried to give me another shirt but we were told they didn’t order any extras so I wouldn’t accept it. I didn’t want someone else to have no shirt because of me. I do this race for the shirt, it’s so cute! I was told that they would have my shirt a week later but two weeks later and I’ve heard nothing. Ugh. I have posted to their event page and will make changes to my review once I hear back.
Race morning was warmer than usual, but I didn’t bring a water bottle because it’s a 5k and they have a water stop. The water stop was at mile 2.2 ish. They had no cups left and the jug was mostly empty so they told me to hold my hands out and drink from that. It was maybe two sips worth and there were people behind me.
The 5k was well marked by the 20k course was not and several runners for lost and ran extra. The food was good but they ran out of some of it before the last 20k runner finished which made me sad for her.
This is usually a well run race but this year it was a dud for me. I will likely be looking for a different race for New Year’s Day 2021.
