We traveled in and stayed at the race sponsored hotel, The Courtyard by Marriott, just a few short blocks from the start/finish line. The expo was walk-able from the hotel as well, and I liked the organization of it and vendors there. Nice long sleeve tech event shirts with shirt exchange available.
We made dinner reservations at The Yard. Definitely recommend that place!

Our hotel served fruit and bottled water early for the runners which was really nice.
Plenty of portopotties at the start area so we didn't have to wait long. We walked right into our corral a few minutes before the start. We all submitted our times from our fall race so we could be seeded in Wave 1 and start on time with the 7:33am start time. This is HUGE race, pretty crowded, but runners were able to take over the entire street so we had enough room. I think they could have done a better job of patching up the potholes on the road.

Overall, this course was pretty boring. The point is getting to run on the Indy 500 race track, so the run to and from was just kind of meh to me. There is a super cute little street leading up to the track that I really enjoyed running through with tons of crowd support. The track is 2.5 miles long, and the entrance in is a pretty steep downhill then back up to get in. The Golden Mile recognizing KIA military personnel was moving. We mainly ran on the pits, but when running on the track the slope was a little tough. The track also felt like a different type of pavement. We ran out of the track back to the finish line and the road was like a really beat up cobblestone type of road. It poured the entire race this year, so the messy roads had huge puddles.
Plenty of 'pit stops' for water on both sides of the street and well staffed.

When we finished we got our medals, headed over to the food, got some photos and went on a desperate search for mylar blankets. I was pretty disappointed they did not have any, especially since early May can bring out any type of weather and in watching the forecast we knew the odds of it raining was crazy high.
Since our hotel was so close to the finish line, we did not use gear check, but we were so wet and cold we did not hang out much at the finish line area which was a bummer. It was a huge area full of vendors and food trucks and music I would have liked to hang out, it was just too cold with the rain at that point .

Overall, it is a good race, good organization, pretty good crowd support, and I may have had a little different opinion if it had not rained the whole time, but you can't fault the race for the weather! I got to kiss the bricks on track and that was an awesome opportunity. Lots of my friends PR'd this race, so pretty fast, very flat race.

I traveled down from Ohio for this race to run with my sister. First off, expo was just okay, mainly just stores selling discounted stuff. It was an easy in and out as far as getting our bibs and packet and shirts, no lines and plenty of volunteers.
Race day, we were able to get downtown without too much traffic and plenty of parking near the start line. It was a little cooler out and breezy that morning so we were able to duck into one of the buildings around before the start. Did not wait long for a porta porty at all either. We jumped out of the building with about 10 mins to start and walked right into a roomy corral. Definitely not smashed in like sardines as usually expected at these bigger races. They put about 4 minutes between corrals to keep the congestion down.
A nice downhill start to the race. I was holding back to brace for the uphill at mile 9, but it wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. Still a tough hill, I just way over estimated its steepness based on the elevation map. I loved running thru the stockyards. The crowd support was somewhat clustered to certain spots on the course, but plenty of other runners out to keep you company.

At the finish line they announced names as we came in. We collected our medals, got a mylar blanket, then finisher's jacket (it was like a paper fabric of some sort) then went in for post race food of the usual fruit and granola bars, then ice cream and soup! We grabbed our finishers t-shirt and headed out to the beer tent where we got 2 pretty large Miller Lights each.

Easy walk back to the car and access to the freeway as they started opening up part of the streets as the race thinned out and moved them down to 1 lane.
Great experience definitely recommend!

We drove 6 hours from Ohio for this race for a long weekend girls trip Saturday-Monday. We started by checking in to our hotel at the Holiday Inn Express that was right at mile 20 of the marathon course and also part of the half course. We then headed out to the expo which was way smaller than we expected. Half the expo was in a hallway that you enter and exit the room that had the packet pickup and it was awkward and crowded. It was inside the Glass Museum. The race shirt was a long sleeve quarter zip that I LOVE and a little bottle of champagne for the 21 and over crowd.

For race day, we drove to Corning and parked in a garage to hit the shuttle bus line. We were then shuttled up to the start of the half. The school was open to sit in to stay warm, but I was a little confused as to why we weren't sent to a gym or cafeteria to hang out in, just people lined along the hallways. You cannot use the bathrooms in the school, but plenty of porta potties outside. They had an easy gear check, UPS trucks right up where you can't miss it.

We walked down the street about a quarter mile to reach the start of the half and started on time. A little hill about a mile in to the race, but otherwise it was a gradual decline, and it was a very quiet, quaint area with pretty scenery. The only struggle at the end was a lot of turning.

The finish line was in the little downtown area which is super cute, and a couple of the stores and bars are open early for spectators to hang out. We got our medals, got some photos, then headed over to the food tent. LOTS of options. Pizza, tomato and chicken noodle soup, bagels, cookies, fruit all sort of stuff.

Since we planned our stay through Monday, we drove up to Watkins Glen and did the waterfall hike afterwards which was totally worth it. About a 25 minute drive up from our hotel. Then we went out to dinner and drinks afterwards in downtown Corning. It was a really great and fun weekend race get away and I absolutely recommend.

First, we drove up on Friday afternoon and stopped at Dave's Running Store for packet pickup. Plenty of volunteers so I did not have to wait. No expo, just packet pickup. Saturday morning races are my favorite, so that was another draw for me to run this one.

This race is a point to point. Since my parents live close to the start line in Downtown Maumee, and my husband planned to meet me at the finish, I did not have to drive downtown to Toledo to park to be bussed back to the start line in the morning. The race was set to start at 7:30am. This seems pretty late to me for a mid June race. The race was a good size, capped at 1100 half participants and 900 for the quarter marathon which started half way into the half marathon course.

This year, storms rolled in close to the start time, so the race was delayed 2x and did not start until 8am. The weather kept temps down in the high 60s for the first mile or 2, but once those clouds cleared out, the sun, heat and humidity caused for tough conditions.

The race is a baseball theme, running from downtown Maumee up to the new Mud Hen's stadium in downtown Toledo. We were sent a block over to the municipal building for shelter during the storm, then got started at 8. We ran down to Side Cut park and turned around at the cemetery and came back up to the start line. Sidecut Park has a nice hill going down, but its a beast to get back up for only being the first 2 miles of the race. The race leveled out after that. You run down River Rd for the entire rest of the race. This is very similar to back when the Glass City Marathon used to follow the river before it moved to the University of Toledo.
The roads were a little questionable in a few places. Just beat up and potholes. The first 3/4 of the race had a decent amount of shade from the trees. The houses along the route are very pretty up Maumee and before you get close to the West End.
There were plenty of water stops, however, they served gatorade AFTER the water, which is backwards. They gave out gels at a few water stops which was nice, but it was so hot that I had to stick to water and gatorade only. There were some really great spectators out on the course with sprinklers and hoses which was very helpful. Spectator of the year had ripped up rags and sponges soaked in ice water she was handing out.
Volunteers were great and really helped with their positive support, especially at water stops.
My watch finished with 13.33...that was a killer. I just wanted to be done so bad.
...So you get downtown, round a corner, go in front of the Owen's Corning building and around the stadium. You go down a tunnel onto the field and run along the very back outfield. Lots of guys on the field making sure you do not go on the grass.
It was a cool finish on the ball field. The tough thing about it was that to get to the celebration area, you had to walk all the way around the inside of the stadium to get back out, after walking up all the stairs to get back to street level.
Once we got out, there was a nice fenced off turf area with bounce houses and a band which was really great since my kids probably would not have wanted to sit around for long. Post race food was watermelon and bananas, go-gurts for the kids which was a great help as well, and all runners got a beer or pop, hotdog and bag of chips. Totally fit the baseball theme. They had post race massages, but I could tell my family had little patience for hanging around this morning.
The medal was a good design and a good weight. I absolutely love the shirt as well. It was a nice light weight tech t and I love the design.

Overall, it was a very hot race. I debated dropping down to the quarter, but didn't for pride reasons. Since the first 3 miles are out and back and you cross back over the start line to continue on, I think this would be a really awesome 15k by eliminating that first out and back portion. The race is generally a gradual downhill, but the few hills in it, you should be prepared for. Plenty of water stops, good finish line/post race experience. I would recommend

This is my 2nd year in a row doing the relay. We stay at the Hilton downtown where everything is in walking distance. We were granted late checkout time of 1pm which cut it very close. Our first leg did not get over the start line until nearly 30 minutes after the race started as this is a very big race, like 40,000. Last year I did the 2nd leg-beautiful, but extremely difficult. This year I did the 4th leg and I thought it was also very pretty. The majority of this leg is downhill with a few slight inclines. They moved the finish line this year, and it was blazing hot, no shade at the finish anymore. There did not seem to be as food at the finish this year. Free pizza and beer though. you can really tell how well a race is organized on how they treat the back half of the marathon and this race absolutely takes great care in LOTS of aid stations, water stops, gels, and food along the course. They made sure to make up for the heat by having ice cube stations, and cold, wet towels along the course. Shuttles offered to your leg, lots of porta potties and food at the relay check. My only complaint here is the relay calls. I heard my number called so I jumped out for my teammate and I could not find her. It was too crowded and we lost a few minutes because of it.
Flying Pig has one of my favorite expo events. SO many vendors, race sponsored gear, and swag. Last year was a backpack I use frequently and this year was an outdoor blanket that I am already getting great use out of with the nice weather. With 30 minutes left on Saturday they announced all race gear was 50% off so we stocked up. The only issue this year is they changed shirt vendors, and the shirts fit pretty large.
