Stephanie Fichtelman's thoughts:

We drove 6 hours from Ohio for this race for a long weekend girls trip Saturday-Monday. We started by checking in to our hotel at the Holiday Inn Express that was right at mile 20 of the marathon course and also part of the half course. We then headed out to the expo which was way smaller than we expected. Half the expo was in a hallway that you enter and exit the room that had the packet pickup and it was awkward and crowded. It was inside the Glass Museum. The race shirt was a long sleeve quarter zip that I LOVE and a little bottle of champagne for the 21 and over crowd.

For race day, we drove to Corning and parked in a garage to hit the shuttle bus line. We were then shuttled up to the start of the half. The school was open to sit in to stay warm, but I was a little confused as to why we weren't sent to a gym or cafeteria to hang out in, just people lined along the hallways. You cannot use the bathrooms in the school, but plenty of porta potties outside. They had an easy gear check, UPS trucks right up where you can't miss it.

We walked down the street about a quarter mile to reach the start of the half and started on time. A little hill about a mile in to the race, but otherwise it was a gradual decline, and it was a very quiet, quaint area with pretty scenery. The only struggle at the end was a lot of turning.

The finish line was in the little downtown area which is super cute, and a couple of the stores and bars are open early for spectators to hang out. We got our medals, got some photos, then headed over to the food tent. LOTS of options. Pizza, tomato and chicken noodle soup, bagels, cookies, fruit all sort of stuff.

Since we planned our stay through Monday, we drove up to Watkins Glen and did the waterfall hike afterwards which was totally worth it. About a 25 minute drive up from our hotel. Then we went out to dinner and drinks afterwards in downtown Corning. It was a really great and fun weekend race get away and I absolutely recommend.
