Great race that began facing the State Capital. There was water stations just about every time i needed some water. The course is a tough one. The first three miles consists of several inclines. Great course with many supporters along the way. After the half way mark we begin to wind downwards and have a faster second half. We begin making our way back into the heart of downtown. The finish line is right across the bridge take a right turn and wind down the last .20 of mile to cheering fans across the finish line. The after party was fantastic. Plenty of room to roam around and enjoy all the booths, live music or simply lay and rest. What made this particular event special was that we were blessed with a cool day. This is something very rare for this time in Texas.

I have been wanting to do this particular race since the beginning but the timing never worked out. This year was the same story. I did not have the funds to do it so my wife and I still love cheering and supporting our team. Thanks to Purpose Race Events I won an entry to the half marathon. Thank God, I continue to train during the "off season". This year I got to see the race from a different angle since I was able to run it. It is a fantastic race. San Antonio always has a crowed cheering you on even if the race is big or small. You run run through many of San Antonio's touristy spots like The Pearl Brewery, Brackenridge Park, Dignowity Hill, and winding down the Riverwalk to name a few. What is a race without any inclines right? From beginning to end the race is a must. The after party is great. You get to rest, and munch on treats while watching other runners crossing the finish line.

It was seriously about two or three years I had decided to skip out on this race because previous experience was just horrible. This race was usually in November which means high temperatures in San Antonio. I remember runners falling left and right due to the heat. Having run the Marathon once I remember water stations being scarce. When there would be a table there would be no volunteers and water would be warm!! 2016 brought a different experience. I saw management finally changed the route and date to December. I thought Id give it a shot. That day brought many dark clouds and possibility of showers. I remember get some drizzle the first three miles. Then again mile ten through thirteen it poured. I have to be honest that was probably the most fun I have had in a race in a long time. The route was great. We ran through many areas downtown highlighting the best San Antonio had to offer. We ran by the Pearl Brewery, Zoo, Children's Museum, Witte Museum, and finished off at the Yanagua Gardens formerly known as Hemisphere Park. The Expo is getting weaker and weaker every year. I enjoy marathon weekend as marathon weekend not marathon day. As long as they keep these changes I recommend this race.

We loved it!! M wife and I have this running joke that as soon as we stepped out of the airplane we began to breathe the air over dramatically. We are from San Antonio and have no elevation. We took an uber to the start line which means we do not know much about the parking situation. The race itself was fantastic. We start off at the Denver Zoo, got to run through Colorado first fire station. We went around a nice neighborhood with a lake but best of all we got to run inside the Denver Broncos Stadium. Twice!! The first half was a bit slower I pace myself and good thing because it was most on inclines. After the halfway point i sped up and ran negative splits. Denver has a riverwalk of its own and made me feel like home. I had a personal best in Denver for the marathon so of course it was a great day. I loved the after party because it was so spacious. I would recommend everyone to go.

What an experience. My wife and I are trying to run the marathon in each of the fifty states and boy did we choose a good one to X out California. I loved the start, i enjoyed that we got started really early in the morning. We had to walk about a mile and a half to the start because we had trouble getting there.Once the race got started it was fantastic. It is definitely hilly but what do you expect its San Francisco we already knew that. The view of the water after going up the hill was amazing. Running the Golden Gate bridge was an experience I will never forget. We got to run along side AT&T Park was an experience. We had the tailgaters cheering us on nearing the finish. There was not much of an after party but that isn't as important to me as everything else. Oh yeah I forgot while my wife and I were running with our Texas shorts we must have got his attention. One of my running heroes came to chat with us for about three minutes. Yes, Dean Karnazes actually came to talk to us while on the run. While we were doing the full marathon, he was completed the ultra. What an unforgettable moment.
