This was my first marathon ever and while I can say nothing but great things about the race organization, this race was torture. Don't get me wrong. It was an awesome 7" medal and such great course support with an amazing expo, but Mother Nature did not want me finishing the race that day. Let's just say the race was awesome, but the winter storm that came in around mile 18 was not. This national chain of races was disappointing when it came to the expo. There were at best three booths in attendance the year I ran. The swag would be alright if it wasn't a Santa tech shirt. When else can I wear it besides around the Holidays without looking odd? You also receive a Santa hat and beard for the race, although the year I ran it was freakishly warm (high 50s) and beards and hats littered the race course as runners got too hot.
The course itself was alright but nothing special and the candy at some of the aid stations ended up creating a sticky mess all over the road as runners just dumped it on the pavement. This is a great fun run, but definitely not one I'd do again as a half.

I hate to rate this race so low because it was their inaugural year and I'm hoping they learned from the first year, however, that's the only year I ran it. The expo was little more than a table of bibs and a table of shirts with a few sponsor booths after the race itself. The race, while scenic, was not a course reasonable for a crowd of 5k runners. The course wound down a path that follows White River, curving gently through the woods. I have run this path several times during training and with friends so I'm no stranger to it, but this path is wide enough for 3, maybe 4, abreast and this out and back course for the race made it a VERY tight squeeze for the participants once the faster runners passed the halfway point and came back the same path against the flow of the slower runners.
Again, I hope they changed some things after their first year, but I can't recommend it based on my experience in their inaugural year.

If you like mud and obstacles, this is a MUST attend. I have run Spartans and Warrior Dash and this one was more fun and insane than those. The terrain is hilltop with lots of sharp inclines and plant life to navigate. The obstacles included a muddy slide, a belly crawl with multiple paths to choose from, a 12' vertical wall, monkey bars, cliff climb, and much MUCH more!
The kids course is no joke either. They get their own muddy taste of OCR complete with balance beam and mud slide. The medals are a very cool ninja star, with actual katanas for people who place in their division. After the race, there was beer, a dg, a foam pit to dance in, and grill. All around great weekend for the OCR enthusiast.

The race is (or was) relatively small and is quickly gaining fame as a solid half marathon. The shirts are great custom tech t-shirts with very classy medal design. The expo is growing big enough to rival the Mini Marathon, with several vendor booths and activities. The course takes you through downtown Indianapolis and up Fall Creek toward the State Fairgrounds before heading back downtown. Very flat and fast with some amazing treats at the finisher chute. This was my first half marathon - which I ran only two days' notice. A friend fell ill and I stood in for her. While I was nowhere near prepared for the 13 miles at the time, I'm glad I pushed through it. Freezing rain began to pelt me at mile 10 and the foil blanket at the finish was a welcome relief. Volunteers were there with massage tents, sub sandwiches, chips....really more food that I can even remember. It was a great experience and has only become that much better each year.
