1. Unlimited Hot Cocoa bar at the finish with marshmallows, chocolate syrup etc
2. Nike fleece hoodie with every registration
3. Really sweet coffee mug that you get to take home too

I'm not sure much else needs to be said about this awesome race. Fleet Feet sports hosts this race in Summerville. This past year it was a chilly morning but it was perfect running weather. The race entry fee is $35 but with it you get a really high quality nike hoodie. That hoodie alone makes the race worth it. On top of that you get a chance at having a good PR because the weather is cool and this race course is a nice flat out and back. Once you finish the race there is hot cocoa/ coffe mugs for everyone and you get to go load up on all the hot chocolate you could want. This year there were vendors there like dunkin donuts who had small donut holes and large donuts for everyone as well.

There is also a kids fun run that awards each child with a finishers medal as well.

This race is definitely worthy of your money and is super fun! HOT COCOA Y'all!

This is a run that takes place in one of the most gorgeous areas of Charleston. Tourists come from all over to stay in the Isle of Palms area and take in the gorgeous views, delicious food, as well as everything else Charleston has to offer. Not only does this race take place in a gorgeous area, it benefits some amazing causes. Last year they raised over 50,000 dollars and it was donated to 7 different children charities here in the low-country. I've read race recaps from other local runners and heard a bunch of mixed reviews. Some years this race has been so incredibly hot that people are on the side of the Connector throwing up, others talked about how gorgeous the views on the course are that it makes it completely worth it. I always want to try out every race that I can in Charleston, so when I had the opportunity this weekend to actually race it, I took advantage.
I headed out for a two mile warm up down the main street. Running along this street included lots of just gorgeous rental houses along the beach. I could smell the salt water in the air and I could hear the calm waves of the ocean. The sun hadn't risen yet so I took my warmup out to the beach and captured some beautiful pictures. Something about a beautiful view like that can really just put your mind at ease.

The first mile took us around the corner and directly up the bridge. As I headed up the hill of the bridge I just decided to put forth as much effort as I could so that I could sort of see where my uphill tempo would be at. The views from the bridge were stunning and certainly made the race much more enjoyable. At the 1.5 mile mark you have the water station and a quick turn around to take you back across the bridge towards the start/finish lines. At this point you can see some of the other runners who are on the opposite side of the bridge and it's so much fun to support each other and cheer for each other. The 10k group continued on down the bridge farther, it was a little boost to know I was halfway done.

Coming back up over the bridge feels a little harder but again, you have the beautiful ocean, the palms, and the sweet salty smell of the air. As you take the final downhill to the bottom of the bridge, you make a right hand turn and you can see the finish line! There was a great group there cheering us runners into the finish line with water bottles.

All along the course were some photographers who got some really great shots too. I happen to be a huge fan of race photos, so it was an extra bonus to see these photographers out there capturing so many good spots along the course.

The afterparty was a lot of fun! You had great live music, unlimited free beer, some vendors set up doing massages and giveaways, and the awards ceremony. There were medals for all those who placed top 3 in their age group or top 3 overall. There were also cash prizes for those who placed top overall. For the price you pay you get all of this and a race t-shirt. I would highly recommend this race to anyone who has a chance to do it.

Race for the Ark is a wonderful event that goes towards a great cause. The race starts early, 7:45am, allowing for cooler temperatures and a chance at a PR. The course is flat and fast with lots of trees to provide shade. There was one aid station at about the half way point with water for those who were running/walking.

The post-race event had bananas, oranges, bagels, muffins, water, and gatorade. The local massage school was there to give free post race massages as well. The awards were given to the top 3 overall male/female and there was also top 3 in each 5 year age group. The awards were really nice wooden carved awards as well as a water bottle.

I highly recommend this event for someone in Charleston looking for a easy course. The proceeds go to a wonderful cause and the T-shirts are really nice as well.

This was my first year doing Peachtree. I became a member of the Atlanta track club so that I could get guaranteed entry into Peachtree.
The expo was so much fun! I got a lot of freebies and beer. It was easy to get to and I spent a good couple of hours hanging out and exploring the expo.
For being the largest 10k you would never guess it because they do such a good job with keeping everyone in their areas and not letting it get too crowded or busy. Everyone goes to their respective corrals based on a time that you submit from a previous race that does get verified. The train was easy to take to get to the starting line as well.
There were water stations set up on the walk to the starting line which I thought was so great. There were tons of photographers around taking pictures which got a little overwhelming but I was happy to have lots of pictures to look back on. The race got under way right on top. I wish there had been just a few more port-a-potties as the lines became really long for them. Which of course is to be expected.
The race itself is a bit difficult. As someone who normally trains on flat terrain, the hills were hard for me. There are more than one and they can be long. Other than that, the course itself is fun to run and there were so many people on the streets cheering us on. There were people with water guns to soak us if we asked, there were sprinklers set up that we could run through to cool off, there were bars set up outside with beers to hand to runners if they wanted them. There were tons of aid stations set up at each mile as well. It was extremely hot this year but the race did such a good job of making sure participants were safe.

At the end of the race you get your finishers shirt, a whole foods box of snacks, and to enjoy the post race celebration in a beautiful park.

I highly recommend this race as a bucket list race. I may not do it every year because it is a race I have to travel to but the race itself only costs $35. If you are local, I'd do this race every single year.

I have done this race a few years in a row now and they are improving it greatly with every year.

This race is the only time of the year that the Airforce Base closes down the runway and civilians get a chance to see it. The course is entirely on the runway which does make for a hot day in June but you do get the fun of running through the C-17s. This is a cheaper race at only $20. There are no race shirts but this year we got race flip flops! Totally awesome swag that stands out against the traditional shirts that most races provide.

It is not difficult to get on base, just have your ID ready. Once you get to where you park, you do have to get wanded for security. The only complaint I had this year was that the bathrooms were on the other side of the security, so once you were inside, you had to go back out and get re-screened if you had to go use the port-a-potty.
Awards are really cool as the overall male and female winner get a piece of the runway. Award medals are also given to top 3 in each age category. This year the fire department was set up with a hose spraying us like a waterfall at the end of the race that felt so good. As well, we were greeted with a towel with ice wrapped in it as we crossed the finish line.
There were ice pops, water, granola bars, and bananas for the racers at the end.

The fun part is that you can actually go inside one of the planes and tour it while you are waiting for the results/awards ceremony.
