This 5k is well managed as far as registration and measured/timing. The supporters were awesome. The race gathers all of the local clubs and talent of Long Island. The winner was 15:30 so its quality. The swag was a T-shirt and any 2 Entenmann products, pkg Thomas's English muffins, big bags of terra chips and a boatload of branded pens, cups etc. I couldn't carry it all. $25 registration and everyone walked away with $30 worth of stuff. Amazing.
The course is dead flat and runs through the area around West Islip HS. I do know 1 person accidentally ran off course as the policeman didn't direct him... :(
I'd definitely do this race again next year. They got around 625 finishers and it rained.

The Paumanok is a 70k Race that you can conquer as part of a relays team or solo. A great group comes out for this event. All die hard runners. Teams can be made up of 2-5 members each running legs of 6.5 to 10.5 miles. Lots of runners choose to run it solo.
The terrain is pine barren trails with not too much elevation except for leg 3. Aid stations are located at each transition area. The course is adequately marked and scenic. It's point to point so you cover much of eastern Long Island.
The organizer had great photos and video on the Facebook page leading into the race and tons of photos afterwards. He handmade all of the wooden finisher medals and the trophies were all handmade as well. Great time on the trails, great day all around.

The Littlest Angel Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of families touched by Trisomy 18 and infant loss through public awareness, education and support of other non-profit organizations that join in our mission.
The race is attended by a little more than 200 people and begins at the Our Lady of Mercy Academy parking lot. They have professional timing results and photographers etc. the swag is a t-shirt and a cinch bag with lip balm and pen.
The vendors/food is really great for a smaller event. bagels, arizona iced beverages, gatorade, assorted fruits even italian ice! #score
The course loops through the local neighborhoods. There are not many hills just a rolling course that finishes back at the Academy.
A great experience for a good cause.

Support will benefit Island Harvest Food Bank, Long Island's largest hunger relief organization. Island Harvest provides our neighbors with much needed food, programs and services to 316,000 Long Islanders living with hunger everyday. That is one in every ten Long Islanders! This includes children, seniors, families, individuals, veterans and active duty military families.
A small 5k in Eisenhower Park with maybe 250 entrants. The course is dead flat and is 2 loops. There are some very tight hairpin turns on the course and its slightly confusing as you pass slower runners or walkers.
They have a professional timing system and video the finish line for web playback. There isn't much as far as food/drink freebies at the finish. The Town of North Hempstead loans them the trailer for the announcements and trophy presentations.
The swag is just a tech T. Another 5k for a cause so if you are looking for something to jump into, this is a good choice.

The New Hyde Park 8k is well organized and the course is flat and fast. You start in front of the Denton HS just after a lovely rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. The course takes you through a few neighborhoods on its way to the L.I.E. access road. All of the mile markers have timing clocks and there were 3 water stations. The last few hundred meters are a straight shot across the athletic field an into the finish. It really is an awesome way to finish your race.
There is music and LOADS of food to eat and enjoy. There are bathrooms available in the high school for the runners and the crowd is just small enough not to make it feel over crowded. (350ppl)
The swag consists of a tech Tee. It's nice but for the casual runners, they like to get a finisher medal these days. There were plenty of trophies being handed out for top finishers, AG, Teams, Clydesdales etc. You might sneak in to an AG trophy if you have a good day.

The competition at the top is really good Men's overall was 26:18. I enjoyed the race and would definitely race there again.
