This is one of my favorite races. Why, because its a different marathon. Not along the suburban greenway but though the center of the Army Universe. If you're looking for a race this is an easy option. It provides a good alternative to the cookie cutter marathons. From the swag and support to the opportunity to see some of America's Finest look no further!

Another great race. Great prerace communication. Good motivation from Ambassador's and enjoyed seeing them at the Richmond Marathon Expo. Expo was really large and enjoyable. The starting line was well organized and really enjoyed the Kentucky Derby call to the gates. Nice course and enjoyed going through Churchill Downs. The last couple of miles seemed to never end and were rather alone but isn't that the story for every mile 24 and 25? I'd say the PRO TIP would be to save yourself $$$ and get a great nearby Airbnb and also don't forget to visit some distilleries!

Heroes another well organized and streamlined local race. Enjoyed all aspects of the race. From pre-race to race day. I enjoyed the expo which was very large and had items I needed. The course was fun and different. Obviously running through the old stockyards was awesome. Getting to run back across town through the university area was very nice. Finish line was just fine with a lot of people and of course cold beer.

I enjoyed this race. A decent course although I would have enjoyed more in the historic areas of the town. Definitely a few hills early but then nice and flat along the river. Not a big fan of the long out and back thought. Cool finish and nice support. Not satisfied with post race communication. Would run this race again if there weren't other options.

Ok. So first I hate to review this race. I was very excited to get to do the race and might have expected too much. First, after traveling a great distance (plane, rental, hotel) I made it the last hour of the expo. It was already half disassembled and worst part was I actually needed to find some things. Very disappointed out of the gate and ended up at the mall sports store to get what I needed.

'Parking on race morning was not well marked. I ended up parking in a shopping center with a few other cars and worried the entire time about getting towed. After the race the shuttle buses didn't go near this so I had to schmooze the driver to make a special drop.

The course lost my attention early. Running through neighborhoods in the burbs just didn't interest me. Never a fan of the marathon relay but don't know the logistics involved so I'll just say that it sucks to keep dealing with relay runners.

I did like the part or the race down by the water and the greenway. Really really the best part of the race. Get more of this and the neat downtown and less then mindless neighborhoods. Tried to find a place to eat downtown after the race but nothing really visible to an out of town runner. Also, although the finish party was pretty well organized there was no beer! That I did miss and would have enjoyed some local craft beer! Anyway, glad I got to do the race and cheers to successful years in the future!
