I have created a running website named www.askrunguy.com based on having run over 100 half marathons, including all fifty US states and several other countries; and several full marathons, with a goal of running all six World Major marathons. Below is a template for comments for my rating each race:

Race: Mississippi Blues Half Marathon Jackson, MS 2010
Race Type / Terrain (road, trail): paved roads around Jackson
Organization (Size, Expo, volunteers, start / finish): . Excellent expo and volunteers
Support (fans, music on course): Excellent support. Lots of great blues music
Course Scenery: nice historic town to run through
Course Difficulty: pretty hilly, not too challenging.
Weather / Temperature: colder than expected, especially at finish
Course location recreation (sights, things to do): Some fun things to do especially regarding listening to blues music and touring historical buildings
Logistics (Getting to the race site): recommend driving from a fairly close airport
Swag (medal, t-shirt, other items for finishers): Great swag: fun medal, harmonica, and local blues music CD
Food and drink (on course and after finish): Sufficient food and drink during and after race. Nice tent after race to stay warm

Race: First Light Half Marathon Mobile, AL 2010
Race Type / Terrain (road, trail): paved roads throughout Mobile (by ocean
Organization (Expo, volunteers, start / finish): Good. Great volunteers from First Light organization
Support (fans, music on course): Nothing too remarkable or memorable
Course Scenery: Quite pretty running near ocean
Course Difficulty: Fairly flat and easy
Weather / Temperature: Colder than expected (January)
Course location recreation (sights, things to do): Some interesting ship building and ocean attractions to view
Logistics (Getting to the race site): recommend driving from a fairly close airport. Drove from Jackson, MS
Swag (medal, t-shirt, other items for finishers): Nice medal. Received a nice hand-made wall hanging for an age group award
Food and drink (on course and after finish): Food and drink on course is fine

Race: Gobbler Grind half Marathon Overland Park, KS 2009
Race Type / Terrain (road, trail): paved roads around Overland Park, KS
Organization (Size, Expo, volunteers, start / finish): Medium sized, good organization.
Support (fans, music on course): Good fan and band support on the course
Course Scenery: Typical race scenery through suburban KC areas.
Course Difficulty: a bit hilly but manageable
Weather / Temperature: nice weather in the fall – a Thanksgiving weekend race
Course location recreation (sights, things to do): Some fun things to do in KC, especially good food (BBQ)
Logistics (Getting to the race site): Easy access via KC airport
Swag (medal, t-shirt, other items for finishers): Shirt and medal were decent, average
Food and drink (on course and after finish): Decent food and drink on course and after race.

"Great Turtle half marathon 2009 Mackinac, MI"

Race: Great Turtle half marathon 2009 Mackinac, MI
Race Type / Terrain (road, trail): paved roads and trails throughout town and woods of Mackinac Island, Michigan
Organization (Expo, volunteers, start / finish): Expo was quite small, unremarkable
Support (fans, music on course): Almost nobody on course. Ran in some remote areas
Course Scenery: Outstanding scenery – including running through beautiful wooded forest areas
Course Difficulty: Pretty difficult, with a lot of uphill and trail areas through mud
Weather / Temperature: was more humid and warm than expected, overcast
Course location recreation (sights, things to do): Mackinac Island is a beautiful, fun, old-time place to visit. Lots of shops, no motorized vehicles. Lots of tourist attractions.
Logistics (Getting to the race site): Accessible via a ferry from northern Michigan areas
Swag (medal, t-shirt, other items for finishers): Nice medal; really nice pull-over jacket or hoodie sweatshirt for finishers
Food and drink (on course and after finish): Sufficient.

Race: Omaha Half Marathon (Omaha, NE)
Race Type / Terrain (road, trail): paved roads throughout downtown Omaha
Organization (Expo, volunteers, start / finish): Pretty good. Nothing memorable.
Support (fans, music on course): Nothing too remarkable or memorable
Course Scenery: OK. Through an Omaha zoo. Otherwise nothing interesting
Course Difficulty: Fairly flat and easy
Weather / Temperature: Pretty warm and humid, even in fall
Course location recreation (sights, things to do): Not too much exciting to do in Omaha
Logistics (Getting to the race site): Omaha has a decent sized airport
Swag (medal, t-shirt, other items for finishers): Non-memorable medal or shirt
Food and drink (on course and after finish): Food and drink on course is fine.
