I have participated in 3 Best Damn Races in the past and this one was just as good as the others!
Packet pick-up was a breeze, the race started on time, and the course was beautiful. I loved that even with 13.1 miles to cover we barely had to run on the main roads. I enjoyed being able to see all the cute neighborhoods in Cape Coral. I was having a bad race and really appreciated that there was a marathon distance which kept the course open longer than usual.
Best Damn Race does a great job with all these events and I would recommend this race to anyone, especially first timers or walkers.

I was supposed to run the 1/2 marathon but was unable to because of an injury. I heard WONDERFUL things about the 1/2 course and was super bummed that I missed out, but I am signed up for the 1/2 in 2015 :)
I ran/walked the 5k with some friends and had a great time. I loved that the start line was right by Lake Eola park so you could enjoy the expo and spend time with friends in the park. There was plenty of room to move around and lots of places to meet up with people or just relax. One of my favorite things was sitting in the grass near the PR bell and watching people ring it. It is one of the best parts of Best Damn Race!
As with BDR in Safety Harbor everything ran smoothly! I volunteered at Packet Pickup on Friday afternoon/evening. Packet pickup started on Friday at noon and ran until 7 pm. This gave folks a chance to pick up their packets on their lunch break or after work. We had more than enough volunteers to be able to help out folks in a timely fashion. With the race being downtown I think some people just opted to wait until race morning to pick up their packets. Thankfully there was gear check on race day so you didn't have to run your stuff back to the car.

Love love LOVE this race! I participated for the first time in 2013 and I've done every race since (now in two other towns). I did the 10k for BDR in 2013 and it was a fantastic course with most of it along the water. In 2014 I did the 1/2 marathon and it was even better! I even had a PR :)
The best damn things about the Best Damn Race:
- The Medals!
- The shirts (they have women's sizes)
- The expo
- The food, beer, and massages. So much food!
- The course - I love running along the water in Safety Harbor
- The staff - this race is run by runners and that makes all the difference
- The host hotel - the Safety Harbor Resort & Spa is amazing and great for a race weekend away
Can you tell that I love this race?! Well I do and I can't wait until the next one in 2015. Is it February yet??
