The 2014 Diplomatic Security 10K Annual Tribute Run will be held the morning of October 11 at Burke Lake Park, Virginia. This “fun run” is open to everyone of all ages, whether you are a DS employee, family member, or just want to support the cause. Now in its fourth year, the Annual Tribute honors DS agents, local guards, and others who have died in the line of duty. Funds will go towards the DS Foundation to help families in needs, fund scholarships, and more.

At the beginning when the race director read over the various attacks abroad and the lives lost. It was a heartfelt moment. You realized you were running for more then yourself but for all those that have fallen in the line of duty.

The use of Race Joy app for the CUCB made the experience more enjoyable. It fed to my Facebook timeline as I was running so it kept everyone up to date. Scenery was great, but the biggest problem is how crowded the race is. This year people were constantly bumping into one another. The Aid stations only had water and Gatorade Endurance. Very little swag (T Shirt) and the virtual goodie bag was not as good. I believe the new trend for races should be to partner with companies like RunnerBox, KlutchBox, KonaKase, StrideBox, etc. and have them send the participants some swag or kicka$$ goodies which is what is in the monthly boxes.

Do not get me wrong, considering the 10 miler alone had 15K participants I feel the Race Directors did an excellent job and the course was great considering you were over by the monuments. Plenty of bathrooms too!

For those looking for tough terrain or high elevation difficulty, this is not the race for you. For those want to run with friends and family and relax, this is more your speed.

I was running with TeamRWB and my wife so the race was great.

Awesome race that so many others have captured very well on this site. I recommend the 50K and 50M for ultrarunners looking for a good course worth every penny.

Let me first start with what is on the site:
What is the SOS 50? 50 Shades of Sore (SOS 50) is a self-supported (fatass) trail ultramarathon with 50 kilometer and 50 mile options. The event takes place almost entirely on the Horse-shoe Trail, through French Creek State Park, Warwick County Park, along with surrounding gamelands, natural preserves, and connecting forest and prairie lands. The trail is pristine, beautiful, varied, occasionally rugged, and amazingly secluded for southeastern Pennsylvania. 50 Shades of Sore is organized by Philly's friendliest trail running group, Misery Loves Company. We welcome trail runners of all abilities to join our ranks.

Okay, so what did I think of this race. Absolutely had a great time. It was my first ultra and I couldn't think of a better crew to share the experience with. The elevation was brutal and the distance was long. I went the entire time without music and that was by choice. Also, because I had great people to run with. This particular race offered a 50K and 50M. I knew I was not ready for the 50M so I signed up for the 50K. I traveled up from Northern VA to French Creek State Park, PA. Easy location to get to.

Prep for race: Plan for anything so be well equipped. Make sure you have plenty of fluids on you and necessary supplements.

The course is flat and fast and takes runners through the streets of GMU-Manassas at the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center and the surrounding roads. Not bad at all and many people attend this short distance race.
