RnR Virgina Beach was a fantastic race. It was very hot in 2019, but the spectators and race organizers handled it so well! There were sponges, hoses, popsicles, ice, anything you can think of along the course to help combat the heat. The finish line is on the boardwalk next to the ocean, so it’s a gorgeous finish! They’ve discontinued RnR VB, but if you can get to the city for other races, do it!

This race was great for the cause it was supporting. The course was a little boring, with most of it being an out and back. The medal was great, with a spot to put in your own coin that you pick up at the expo when getting your bib. It was inspiring to have the police and fire men out on the course cheering for us. Overall, a decent local race. It competes with some pretty big name races in Boston, so it’s hard to compare when you’ve run the marathon course!

I am a back of the pack runner, and finished this race in 6:30, a full 30 minutes under the time limit of 7 hours. I found a depleted finish line and very little amenities. The crowd support was minimal, and I struggled in the later miles with so little support. It is advertised as a flat course, but the first half is rolling hills. It is 2 out and backs for the marathon, so it is a tough course mentally to tackle. The medal is huge and the finisher towel is a nice touch, though.

The Cleveland Marathon is a great local race. I was one of the last finishers in 2018, so I missed out on some of the finish line amenities, but the finish line was still up and waiting for me, so I was happy about that. The 1 mile race for families the day before only offers t-shirts and no medals, which was disappointing for my nieces and nephews. Overall a good choice for a local race, but not sure I would travel for it again. The course is pretty enough, but ends with some elevation.

I loved the RnR San Antonio race! San Antonio is a fabulous city, and the course was largely flat. There are some parts that have hills, and some not so shady parts. You get to run past the Alamo, which is super cool! I ran the 10k the day before and PR’d because the weather was so nice and the course was so flat. The aid stations were well stalked and the med tents were great. The volunteers really helped me through a rough patch at mile 18 of this marathon. Highly recommend San Antonio!
