This is an awesome small town run. It's accurate distance and during the last full weekend of June. There are lots of activities going on all day after the race as well. There is a prayer before the run for safety,etc. There are fun awards every year for things like oldest or youngest runners, age group awards, etc. I always have a lot of fun running in it. You never know exactly what the weather will be but it is a flat/fast course with only really one up and down hill. It's an out and back run. There is really no traffic to worry about. There is an aid station at the 5k turn around pt. and the 10k turn around point as well. They have nice t-shirts and socks and sometimes chapstick!

On the 4th of July 2017 I went to run in West Fargo, ND. for a great cause, the Vietnam Veterans of Chapter 941. I found the race on Facebook, and decided to go because I was visiting my sister in the area.
The race had ample parking, and was easy to find. I am not used to driving in the area, but the parking lot was a quick drive from the interstate and was easy to see. The advertised start time was 7:30, which ended up being the start for the 10k. The 5k runners started at 7:45 instead. It didn't bother me as I needed a little more time to warm-up etc. The bathrooms were a little bit busy but the lines moved quickly. Registration was also very quick, even though I didn't get there very early.
​ The race started around a block and went to a concrete walk-way, which wasn't ideal (I'd prefer asphalt), but it was clear of traffic and safe, etc. There were vets cheering, even out in the heat, they came to cheer for us. At the half way point, I was really hoping for water because it was so hot, and there wasn't any. But I quickly remembered that when soldiers were fighting in Vietnam they were thirsty as well, so I gave up on pouting! Hahaha! The finish had nice, cold water, and a time clock. There was a slip to write down your time, or you can submit it online up to two weeks after the race. The finish of the race was a little bit confusing because you run past the start line and then around the block, so I was kind of wondering where it was and couldn't see it until I was right there. The miles were marked though and just about the time I wondered where the finish was I saw mile marker 3 so I knew it was soon! (Plus: The race distance was accurate on my Garmin.) Medals were awarded to all finishers, and were unique with a star shape and spinning centers that reminded me of fidget spinners. The race course was flat, and fast. It was fairly competitive, although there wasn't race awards, etc. but there were over 200 runners there, the races largest turn out to date . One thing to note, I didn't see a photographer, but a news crew, wday6.
​ All in all, I liked the race and would do it again. I had a good time. It supported a great cause. Loved seeing the vets and the people supporting them on the day when we celebrate our independence.
​ The money will be going for veterans, transportation, and homeless shelters.
