I've participated in the relay, half marathon and marathon distances of this race over the last 5 years. As an avid runner now, I can pick apart the race and see what I like and what I don't, whereas earlier experiences, I had no idea what was "normal."

What I've learned to value about this race is the volunteers! They have enough volunteers everywhere from the bib pickup, to the information booth, to the course marshals, to the finish line medals and food/beer tents.

The recognition and swag for first time marathoners is unmatched!! Special bibs, special gear, special recognition that makes you know that its a BIG deal to run a marathon-especially your first time.

My favorite distance is the half marathon because I love Ottawa Hills, about a two mile square in Toledo that has beautiful houses, elevation changes, places for spectators to cheer and lots of mature trees! That's my kind of scenery! People cheering and traditional, unmatched, some rebuilt historical homes...and finish in the Glass Bowl where you can meet your family and take pictures, or lay on the turf and relax.

Next year, this is my marathon! It's one of the highest rated BQ courses in the nation. Why would I go anywhere else?
