This is a small race that would be good for Texans to travel to. It’s fairly new so it lacks in areas such as organization, aid stations, and community support. BUT, Abilene is a relatively small town, so kudos to the city parks and recreations department for trying their best. I have ran the last two years and it continually seems to be a little more organized with good local sponsors. I will continue to support, as I’m a local, and I want to see it continue to take place.

The course takes you around Abilene’s country side with a beautiful sunrise. It is still pretty warm in October, so I recommend planning accordingly for that. The course is flat as a pancake as there no hills near town. There are police helping to guide traffic, but the roads are not closed to traffic. On a positive note, the traffic was very minimal.

Goodie bags were provided with a pretty nice long sleeve cotton tee. The medals were ok too.

This was such a great and fun race! First, communication in emails and social media was fantastic. The expo was easy to get to and had really good booths. Race day was great! It was easy to get to my corral and everything went smoothly!

As for the 13.1 run, nothing but fun with great views from the best parts of Ft. Worth! My favorite part was running through the Stockyards. There was a perfect balance of uphill difficulty and flat roads. Aid stations were great, so thank you to all the volunteers that kept us moving right along.

The swag was great! Fun participant shirt and flashy finisher shirt. Medal was beautiful! Finish line food and snacks were great!

This was my first marathon and I ran with a friend. Our goal, since this was our first marathon experience, was to finish. The scenery was great, taking us through a variety of Dallas neighborhoods, and around White Rock Lake. I was not expecting elevation to be difficult, but there was one uphill around mile 20-21?? that had me hurting. It was doable though, and the crowd encouragement was great!

The race stations were distributed perfectly. We had no worries, even at the end of the race with regard to potty stops and hydration. Music along the course was great.

We stayed at one of the designated hotels and paid for parking for the weekend. It was within walking distance, so no complaints. I figure if I can sign up and pay to run 26.2 miles I can handle an 8 minute walk. 😜

I don't have any comparisons, but I thought the expo was great! Great booths, Shalane Flanagan,
fun freebies!! Also, if you want to see your name on the side of an awesome BMW, do this race.

Overall, this was a FUN race! It was challenging, but with all the support even an average middle age runner like me, will feel like a rock star athlete!
