This is still one of our favourite races to date. The location is set in the beautiful Catskill mountains and the Sunnyhill Golf Course offers great on-site accommodations and meals included in the package price. Our rooms were quiet and comfortable and we could shower after the race before making the long 7-hour trek home. The obstacles are permanent structures that are HUGE and well built. This course is 5.5 miles of wooded terrain with hills and valleys throughout. As you weave your way around the 300+ acres, you are challenged to some fantastic climbs, descents, crawls and upper-body workouts to test even the most elite of athletes -35 obstacles for those that are counting. Highly recommended for those looking for a challenge and a great weekend of fun and relaxing activities. Night time entertainment and golf on Sunday topped off a perfect weekend away. The food was great and Tinker is the perfect hostess! One of our favourite sweatshirts and a custom made wood medal for each participant. Thor's hammer for those that place in the Elite heats. Highly recommended and family-friendly location. Playgrounds on-site and a beautiful lake to top it off. Free parking with accommodations and a nice BBQ after the race to meet fellow racers and relax in the outdoor gazebo.

If you live in the city then yes, I would recommend it. We came in from out of town and it was a driving nightmare. Long line ups and huge crowds just to get our race kits. I suggest picking up your race kit beforehand if you can. We had to race to the start line so we did not miss our start time for the 5K. If you do not like crowds this race is not for you. Nice loop out and back along the canal and a nice tech shirt for the event. Finishers medal for all racers. We did not have time to see the expo but heard good things about it. Easy online registration and good communications. No parking unless you come early. Many roadways closed for the event. Flat course.

This was my first experience doing an OCR and 80+ races later I can still remember that day like it was yesterday. The venue was great but parking was limited and racers were bussed in from a lower parking area. If you stay at the hotel parking is included and you also then have access to your room to head back for a shower after the event. Well organized, quick race kit pick up and music kept you motivated at the base camp. The terrain is mountainous and it was really hot. There was a water station at the top of the second slope, but was needed way before that for inexperienced racers. Their t-shirts and viking horns are FAB and they had a nice vendor village to purchase additional items. Chicken legs were available and beer and the hose off station was a large fire truck that blasted your mud off and cooled you down, much needed on a hot day. Bananas and a great medal upon crossing the finish line. Good varied obstacles and a fire jump to finish the event. Large crowds and shoes donated to charity if you want to ditch them after the race. Race kit is average with custom bib and coupons. Recommend camelback if a really hot day to avoid dehydration during climbs.
