4.3 mile trail run around Amana RV park. Well organized with packet pickup day of race. Run was advertised as a trail run with some water, in reality it was a lot wetter and muddier than I anticapated. Very fun once I abandoned the hope of staying clean or dry.
After brats, Millstream beer (2 kegs: one amber, one wheat), bananas, cookies, Gatorade, water, and granola bars provided. They did run out of brats towards the end, not sure if everyone got one.
Finisher medal and a very cute baseball 3/4th sleeve shirt. Was promised women's sizes but was given a mens. Bibs & timing chips.
Hoses at the end to wash off, porta-potties on site. Parking right by registration and starting line. Arrived 30 minutes before race and was able to check in with plenty of time.
There was one water station on the course (about halfway) and the obstacles backed up quite a bit, so it wasn't a great race to time. Obstacles included hay bales, rope climb, teeter totter, and lots of mud/water crossings. Waist deep water at one point, slippery and very muddy. Course is uneven, hilly, and terrain varies: dirt, grass, rock, mudd, sand... lots of branches, trees, thorny/pokey plants.

I've run 3 years in a row. I like this race. But this year they changed the shirts (cheaper, smaller) and limited the free beer selection. The only choice was the new newbo pale ale, which was pretty hoppy and not my favorite. Seriously, we went from all the choices, to two choices, to one choice. Also, no food. 2 years ago: scratch cupcakes, pizza. Last year Noodles & Co., bananas. This year nothing. Nada. Zilch.
We left after the beer & grabbed food somewhere else. Wasn't much of a "post race party"....
Sorry Backpocket, this year sucked.
Registration & packet pickup was easy. We'll organized busing to race start.

This is one of my favorite races at one of my favorite breweries. I've run it twice and I plan to run it again in 2015 (already signed up!) All the necessary information is communicated (parking, when to arrive, where to leave your stuff, etc) beforehand via email and packet pick up is available at Running Wild downtown Iowa City. The shirts are always very nice (I wear mine all the time to gym) and come in women's sizes, dry-fit. Afterwards, you receive a beer and there is food. Last year the food was from Noodles and Company, I preferred the pizza they offered in 2013 but it's fine either way.
The only downside is that it is usually REALLY hot. It's August in Iowa, after all. They hold the race in the afternoon and it can be 90+ degrees during the run. There are plenty of water stations throughout.

This was the only race near Iowa City that was happening ON the 4th of July, so I signed up. I checked in day of the race and that was easy, but parking was difficult as most of the roads downtown had been closed off. I don't know Cedar Rapids well enough to get around, so better directions from the race beforehand would have been appreciated.
The tshirts were junk and poorly made/designed. Don't even bother with a shirt if you can't make one I'll wear again! The food at the end was ok, bananas and bagels. There was also ice cream (bomb pops) and gatorade. The location was fine, with plenty of shade. It was a relatively easy course to complete, but gave me the satisfaction of having run before consuming 4th of July BBQ :)

The set up is awesome and super easy. Check in was a breeze and the meat bag is the best gift I've ever been given at a race-- who really needs another t shirt? The course itself is very flat and easy, but it was icy and the wind was merciless. There's nothing to cut the wind, it's cornfields on both sides. If I had to do it again, I'd do earmuffs and a hat.
