I think most Disney races are overhyped, and there are very few posts/reviews that I've found that are honest about pointing out the flaws/areas that could be improved. I don't want this review to be perceived as me bashing the WDW Marathon or runDisney, because I've run 8 Disney races in the past 4 years, and I'll continue to run them on occasion. But there is a lot of room for runDisney to improve the experience, especially for the cost of the race.

One thing that people always rave about with any Disney race is the opportunity to run through the parks and to take photos with Characters. Those things are pretty awesome, no question. What they fail to mention is that you MIGHT spend 5 miles of the race in the parks, the rest of the race is along service roads and through parking lots, where there isn't much to look at. I would absolutely encourage you to take pictures with the characters, but don't expect to see much for most of the race.

The actual aid stations aren't bad. They are basic, but have most of the things that runners need. The water stops are good, and there are plenty of them. But when it comes to race fuel, there isn't much available on course. There are two spots to get bananas, one spot to get gus, and some chocolate at mile 20. The chocolate at mile 20 is pretty awesome though.

I've listed many more pros and cons on my blog, which you can check out at http://www.dizruns.com/2014-walt-disney-world-marathon/.

Overall, I had a blast running this race and it's a race that I will probably run again at some point. It's a race that I would encourage people to run if they are interested in it. But is it as "Magical" as some would have you believe? No, it's not.
