Kolbe Ricks's thoughts:

This was my first trail and race and first experience with the Trail Racing Over Texas team. Since it was my first time running a trail, I opted for the 5K, but wished I had at least done the 10K. I'm from the Austin area, so it was great to experience the trails right outside my city.

Terrain: Rocky, sandy, muddy, rolling trail that is mostly tight single track. Definitely had to run through some streams, carefully cross logs in the water and avoid washed out areas of trail. The race director also periscopes as he goes out to mark the trail, so you can get a good preview of the course before you are out there!

Aid Stations: On the trail, there was a self-serve water only station at 1.55 miles. You also must carry your own water vessel as they do not provide cups to help keep the trail clean.

Every distance made loops, so the main aid station was PACKED with amazing things! They had: Water and Tailwind, Coke, Ginger ale, Hammer Endurolytes, Cookies, Candy, Peanut Butter, Nutella, Pringles, Trail Mix, PB&Js, Bean burrito rolls, bananas, oranges, watermelon, peeps

Drop Bags: They set aside a section for the longer distances to keep drop bags.

Medical: TRAIL TOES, bandages, vaseline, band aids and other medical needs.

Swag: Amazing finishers medal, T-shirt, prizes for Top 3 Overall in each distance and top 2 masters in each distance. No age-group awards. They also had a trail shoe vendor with some discounts, all the Trail Racing Over Texas merch available. Music throughout the whole race/post-race. A food truck, port-a-potties.

I can't say enough good things about this crew. The website has everything you could want/need to know about this race and the race director Rob is so easy to talk to, and incredibly helpful. If you want to start racing trails, I'd suggest signing up for one of their races.
