My fifth First Half started with a typical Vancouver winter day - rain - and ended with one of my fastest ever half marathon times! Held this year on Valentine's Day, the First Half is a no-nonsense race that attracts elite talent, caps at 2,000 runners, and highlights some of the best scenery Vancouver has to offer.

Starting and finishing in Yaletown, along scenic English Bay, and circling the entire Stanley Park seawall - the course is fast and flat. The aid stations are well-stocked and the volunteers (even in the pouring rain) are enthusiastic. After nearly 3 decades, the First Half organizers have things down to a science - everything really goes off without a hitch.

This race sells out fast - not Seawheeze fast, but within the first day - HOWEVER, bib exchanges are allowed up until the last week, so there's almost always an opportunity for late entry.

Plus the medal is cute and this year's shirt was great!
