The race typically takes place the first weekend in December and it is relatively small compared to some larger races, but this one is for a good cause. It is in honor of former Army veteran that loved to run. His last name was Cash. There are lots of military volunteers and you see some military running the race in their gear. The first 3 miles of the race are on the streets, which remain open to the public but the volunteers and cops do a good job of managing the traffic as the runners come through. After the first 3 miles, you enter a scenic trail that takes you through the next 4 miles. There is a river on your left so it makes for a beautiful run. The last 3 miles takes you through the campus of East Carolina University. The final straightaway takes you over a bridge decorated with red, white and blue before you hit the finish line. If you like smaller races and races for a good cause, definitely look into this one.
