Samantha Andrews's thoughts:

Disclaimer: I received an entry into the Publix Savannah Women's Half Marathon to evaluate as part of being a BibRave Pro.

This week's medal Monday is in celebration of the 2024 Publix Savannah Women's Half Marathon. This year was the 10th anniversary of the race. This was my 6th time running and it gets better each year.

The Expo
The expo was held at the Charles Morris Center. The bib and fanny pack pick up was quick. There were few vendors selling shoes and apparel. While I didn't purchase any items, I had fun taking pictures with the props.

Race Day
The race started at Forsyth Park. One of my favorite reasons about running in Savannah is the ease of parking near the start line. I was able to find street parking near the park. I caught up with a few friends and coworkers before the race. My goal for the race was just to do my best.

The race started at 7:30 am. I started off running in my pullover and by the first mile I was ready for a wardrobe change. I took the top off and placed it around my waist for the remainder of the race. I had side stitches around mile 3 due to drinking too much water and shallow breathing. I started running 2 min (run)/0:45 s (walk) intervals. Over time the stitches went away and I continued the intervals so I could enjoy the race. Since Savannah is flat, running intervals didn't cause a large decrease in my finishing time. The race was also an opportunity to practice fueling and mental toughness.

I finished the race in 2:38:09. I started to get tired around mile 11 (typical half marathon behavior) so I slowed down. I was proud of my time and so glad to be done.

The weather was perfect and I had a great time at the race with other runners. The post race celebration was live. Unfortunately, I had to check out of my hotel by 11 am so I left immediately after the race. My only improvement for the race was be to offer Powerade or another sugared drink after the race. The race only offered milk and water, but I really need sugar after the race for immediate energy.

I am looking forward to next year' race.
