The Freedom 5k is run every 4th of July weekend by OBX Running Company. It’s in Kill Devil Hills NC, right in the middle of the Outer Banks. Makes for a fun holiday weekend event. All ages participate, and I think they have a 1 mile kids run as well. Price is cheap, you get a cotton t shirt and a very nice medal that you can see at the website link. Veterans and military discount. Parking is easy at the high school, just walk across the street. Chip timed, out and back course with a water station in the middle. Fruit, cookies and water at the end. This is usually pretty full, 5-600 runners because it’s a busy Summer weekend. Really a fun family event. It’s always humid since you’re out on an island, but early morning so shouldn’t be too hot. Some sandy road in the middle, mostly on paved streets though. Well run and fun.
