The M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon is a flat, fast course that winds through Burlington and along Lake Champlain, the MTBVCM is a community effort, recognizing all those who have had a hand in making the race a success since 1989. The course runs through the best of Burlington, from Church Street Marketplace to the Burlington Bike Path and offers exceptional views of the Adirondack Mountains. The race can be completed as an individual or as a relay time of 2-5 people.

Emily 's thoughts:

I have run this race several times: the full (x2) and the relay (x2). This is a "big" race for Vermont, with a few thousand marathoners, and a 2 person and a 3-5 person relay that runs alongside the full. It occurs over Memorial Day weekend. The course is fair with one big hill around mile 15 and mostly rolling terrain otherwise.

Pros:
-Shamrock-style course is very spectator friendly
-The city of Burlington really comes out to support this race
-Neighborhoods are amazing and set up their own cheer and aid stations
-Sections of the course are very beautiful
-Well-organized staff and volunteers, good swag

Cons:
-The weather is very iffy. I have run it when it was rainy and cold, but more often than not it can be hot/humid. The race was black flagged due to heat in 2016.
-Portions of the course are pretty dull, but the neighborhood spectators make up for it!
-When running the full, I don't love running with the relay because mentally it can be tough having fresh relay runners blow past you, and it can feel congested in narrow portions.

OVERALL: I will continue to come back to this race since I am local. It is a fun race and definitely worth doing, but maybe not a PR race depending on weather.
