I loved everything about this race and that's saying a lot because it was my 51st half marathon in my 49th state. It was well-organized, the pre-race communication from the race director was helpful, the expo was like pre-pandemic expos and easy to get to, the pullover was fantastic, the course was along some of the highlights of Des Moines and extremely flat with one very minor rise in elevation towards the end, volunteers were out in full force, spectators were all over the course, the post-race food (BBQ sandwiches, bananas, cookies, chocolate protein drink, Gatorade, water, plus packaged snack boxes) was great, medals were nice, and the post-race field with alcoholic drinks and bands was the icing on the cake.
