This is my hometown marathon. Getting to run through many of the diverse neighborhoods is one of the great features of this race. The first half of the course is pretty flat and fast. Also crossing three rivers and over 5 bridges is a great experience. Once you cross the Birmingham Bridge you start a major climb, but if you are prepared and in shape you will be able to handle it. Another plus for this marathon is the entertainment along the course. There are band every mile. Also finishing in downtown near the point is one of the cool features. This year the medals weren't as nice as last years, but still were pretty decent.
