This was the 4th Annual Diva Dash 5K in the KC area (always held in Leawood, KS) - awesome swag - again, awesome pre-race fun - again, awesome post-race food and fun - again (LOVED the female DJ!). The use of wave starts was a little annoying at first (because we didn't know what was going on), but was probably the best crowd control you could manage. Unfortunately, with so many groups of walkers (I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH WALKERS, I'M A RUN/WALKER), we had to do a LOT of weaving in and around, sometimes up on the grass, sometimes out into the busy traffic lane, because the larger groups of women and strollers weren't knowledgable enough or courteous enough to leave room for runners to get by safely - walkers, don't BLOCK the lane (by walking 6-8 people across). The aid station was difficult to navigate because people wouldn't get their water and move on - would have been better to have tables on both sides of the lane. Lastly - not enough police support near the shopping center. No fewer than 8 cars turned INTO and in front of participants, making it very dangerous. Only ONE of the 6+ entrances had any police support. I LOVE this event, and will continue to participate EVERY year I'm able. Love the girl power, the support, how the race management team makes EVERY runner and walker feel appreciated and supported. The Little Princess run after the event is also very very special and precious to watch! Way to get them excited and feel empowered early!
