There was a lot that was fun about this fundraiser event. 1. Great cause. 2. Marty Dread afterwards 3. Lovely volunteers. 4. A whole lane of traffic heavily coned off for our use heading up a normally very busy stretch of road. 5. Stoked runners on the starting line. 6. Well stocked aid stations and after party snacks. 7. 40% off a whale watching tour (that's 100% worth it at full price) 8. Maui No Ka Oi

I probably won't do this race again though because the 10K was 7 miles long. Since the timing company published results and paces based on the expected 10K, not 7 miles, my pace was a reported as 1:11 sexier than it actually was. I know from my Garmin that buried inside of my 7 mile effort was a 10K PR. But my official time includes a bonus mile. Womp womp.

An organizer told me it was mainly a "fun run" though they tried to accommodate people who were "more into racing". My feedback to them would be to advertise it as a fun run and not a race then.
Measure the courses (for free) so people know if they're fit enough to do it and pace themselves properly, and get rid of the expensive chip timing (which is a waste of money anyway if the distance is wrong). We can still time ourselves if we care...and we probably do if we're doing one of the longer races.
