The half marathon is contrived the worst possible way to get people hurt and ensure poor performances. Fast halfers are started right into the back of the slowest marathon group, on a downhill start. At no point are participants advised and reminded of a lane discipline and passing protocol (e.g. "Walk Right, Pass Left"). I like passing people, but running sideways and hopping curbs to get around ambling walkers is a literal pain.
