This was a timed race at beautiful James Island County Park. It featured a 10K and also a 5K for runners/walkers. The race raises awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation, and all proceeds help send Team South Carolina to the 2018 Donate Life Transplant Games of America in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The race was flat with some turns. It wound through the park on mostly paved trails. There were shady tree-lined areas and sunny parts running by a lake.

First place male and female winners in the 10k and 5k received cash prizes. Age group winners in 1st-3rd places received nice medals.

The race was well-organized and there were snacks (fruit, cookies) on hand at the finish line. No beer, but plenty of water!

The post-race program was very moving. Organ donors, donation recipients, and people who lost loved ones waiting for a donation were recognized.

My favorite thing about this race was that I received a text soon after all the runners finished. It showed all my stats... my gun and chip time, my overall 5K place, and my 5K place in my age group.

The weather is iffy in Charleston in February, but this year we had a gorgeous, warm day!
