I picked up my bib the day before. There was no expo, but that doesn’t bother me at all. This was my first half-marathon. The race organizers were very friendly and encouraging. This was a small race, with 200-300 people participating. The weather was perfect, low 50’s and a few sprinkles of light rain. The marathon was two loops of the half-marathon course. This is a very peaceful and quiet course with few, if any, spectators besides those manning the fuel stops, There were port-o-potties, water, sports drinks, gels, chips at each stop every 1.5-2 miles. Lots of hills on miles 6-8. (Hint: I remember passing “real” restrooms between mile 5 and 6 if you need one and hate port-o-potties.) The views are beautiful, with woodlands, lakes, and wild fields. Miles 9-11 are on a narrow paved trail through the woods, Gorgeous! After the race, there was tons of food, drinks, and even beer. The only snag was when I went to view my results and realized they had given me the wrong bib number the day before. There was someone else’s name next to my bib number and time - I was bummed. I’m still glad I picked this as my first half because it was a very pretty run, small numbers, nice and laid back.
