This race used to be much better when it was the Louisville Sports Commission Half Marathon and not affiliated with Jim Beam. Now there are several cons that are not rated in the survey above:
- You must be over 21 to participate, eliminating the youth of the community.
- They expo is tiny, only the local running store is there. At the packet pickup, they give you your wristband for the post race party and force you to wear it the rest of the day. So if you pick up your packet the day before during the lunch hour you must wear this "over 21" wristband back to work and the rest of the evening (during the race as well). Not Ideal.
- The water stations are one table long; therefore if you are in a group you need to wait. Needed more staffing / volunteers to man the stations.
- Cost is high for the area, not to mention extreme bib swapping rules which are in place months in advance and are costly to implement.
- No charity attached to the race
- Crowd support is non existent during the race, although I did almost get hit by a car that went through the course on a cross road.
Overall, this race is more about the money and Jim Beam Bourbon than promoting the spirit of the sport.
