I ran the 1/2 marathon and was very disappointed by a sexist comment by an announcer halfway through the race. The announcer commented on a woman's tutu and then urged men to run faster because a woman was ahead of them. Is there anything wrong with a woman training and running faster than some men? Why not affirm runners of all backgrounds? I swerved to ask the announcer not to make comments like that, and his next comment over the loudspeaker was, "We're all just having fun here." I'd like to say that sexism isn't fun, and hearing someone with a mic degrade the value of female athletes made the rest of the race much less enjoyable for me. I had looked forward to running this race for my second time, but it will now be my last. I tried to inform race organizers of the event, but have not yet heard anything from them. Personally, I don't want to support a race that is complicit with sexism, but other than that, it would be a nice race course and a cool opportunity to run through two countries.
