Misleading race name - start time is 4:45PM and the sun doesn't set in Portland in August until after 8:30PM, so it was scorching hot the entire race. No part of the course was along the water (which was nice to hang out by after the race), mostly along a paved bike path.

Mostly flat course with a couple of very steep hills that are very avoidable if the course was re-routed to an adjacent street. Had to cross busy intersections a couple times, and stop for traffic. Based on past reviews, it seems as if they've improved in terms of race organization, direction/guidance from volunteers, course markings, etc.

Did this race purely to visit Portland for vacation - afternoon races during the summer are always risky - Portland was hit with a heatwave during that week and it was 90 degrees at race time.

Race t-shirts were not included with the fee; post-race food and drinks were decent (free beer, pulled pork sandwich or veggie burger) with limited giveaways (KIND bar samples [not the entire bar] and energy drinks).

Overall, would recommend this race as a fun run (not PR) if planning to be in Portland for other reasons.
