This was my first 10K and my second race. My son was running the 1/2 and convinced me to run this. I said in an earlier post I'd been running for 40 years and never entered a race. The first was a 8K, this a 10K. Parking was at the Brewers Stadium and was plentiful. There was lots of communication before had and things seemed to go seamless moving a novice such as myself right along. I hooked up with someone who was running my pace pretty quick and we ran together most of the race. He had a goal (slightly faster than I thought I could do) and I had a GPS watch. The run was mostly through the streets of Milwaukee. Some of those streets were under repair and not so great to run on. At the end of the race we went around part of the field at Miller Park and then through part of the stadium. Got a little tight in there. Overall this was a great experience, BUT I would not ever run the 10k again. The price, I thought, was stiff AND in the 10K you received NOTHING for finishing in the top of your age group. The 1/2 would be better to run. I didn't run it in 2016.

Race Management

I've run for about 40 years and never entered a race. My son convinced me to do a larger race with him so I entered this as a practice run. It was held on a Sunday at 10:00. I picked it because I was lazy and did not want to get up early to run. I was nervous. I did not know what to expect. The race is a smaller race and the people were very friendly. Packet pick up was at a local running store where a volunteer filled me in on a lot of details. There was plenty parking in the park where this run took place. Pre-race the had a display from the shoe store that had the pick up and the University of Wisconsin Band was playing. The run had a 5K and a 8K. I ran the 8K. Both ran a loop around the park over grass, dirt and wood chip paths. All rocks and roots were sprayed with orange paint. Plenty of markers and volunteers to keep you moving in the proper direction, which I appreciated on the extra route for the 8K runners as I soon found myself running alone. At the finish line I was greeted by Bucky Badger and many runners and spectators who cheered all finishers. Age groups were grouped 10 years. The first place winners received gift certificates and coupons that covered the entry fee. The food after was some of the best I have seen. Yes this was my first race so I am basing this from runs that followed. Fruit, bagels, pizza and drinks; and plenty of each. I was excited after I finished this run. I would recommend this run. It was run well, the cost is very reasonable and the people were so friendly.
