This race was poorly managed and, by the admission of the director herself, a majority of our entry fees went to pay for LAST year's race. What they didn't pay for included: a decent website (included no information about the new course, elevation, aid stations, etc.); aid stations (water only, sparsely spaced throughout the course - with no water through the lengthy portion in direct sunlight - and only one or two porta potties, and a whole bunch of goo packets... at the finish line, none on the course though); medals or decent shirts; finish line refreshments (they ran out of water before half of the runners had come in!); or course assistance (several parts of the course with confused volunteers who weren't quite sure how to direct runners). They proclaimed it a "green" race by asking us to bring our own bags for bag check, and then it turned out that "bag check" involved our putting tags on the bags (no volunteer to guide people or even sign for the tent with the tags) and then piling them by a tree in a parking lot. After the race, we found that the bags were all STILL just sitting by the tree, no one watching them, nothing keeping anyone from taking anyone else's bag. The whole thing was very amateur and with little apology or concern from the people who ran it. Beautiful scenery and a waste of a great opportunity for a fun destination race.
