The NYC is always hyped up and after running it this past weekend I definitely see why. The entire city is in it throughout all 26 miles, the crowds are screaming, cheering and really helping keep the runners going throughout. There is nothing like the last few miles as you are coming into Central Park to see the people lined up on both sides screaming and cheering-the feeling gave me chills.
The race starts in Staten Island where only the runners are allowed and you take off over the bridge into Brooklyn and from there the scenery stays just as awesome, you really get to see the city.
There is 50,000+ runners so of course it can be challenging in the beginning to get into a groove but once you do it's really not too bad. The NYRR website is so informative leading up to race day and they are so organized to every little detail, from the start village, expo, finish line etc.
We got a long sleeve t-shirt but also had the option of a poncho or gear check bag. You had to walk for a bit after finishing for this and to go to the family reunion area, but again this was all organized and already told to you. There is a ton to do leading up to the race which makes the excitement even better. It's NYC so there is a ton of hotel options, and there are options to get to the start area-again it is all organized. I have ran a lot of marathons and this is by far my favorite! It was AMAZING!
