The expo was pretty good with relevant vendors, and even a free kinesio taping booth. Packet pick up was well organized with friendly volunteers. The pick up location was a bit out of the way and far away from the race location. A consideration if you were traveling in from out of town and staying close to the race start.
The prerace color guard and National Anthem were awesome. They could use more bathroom facilities at the start line. Lines were pretty long and bathrooms were not well located.
The race started on time and there was a great DJ getting the crowd pumped up to start. The staggered start for marathon, half, relay, 10K...certainly helped with crowd control.
The young people who manned the aide stations were amazing. All wearing fatigues, and full of energy. Letting you know where to grab gatorade or water. Lots of aide stations along the trail.
The out and back route along the Bosque Trail is a nice run with just a few mild hills. There is minimal crossing of public roads, but there was law enforcement directing traffic at every place that might be dangerous for runners. The sky was filled with hot air balloons and the marathon relay transition areas were a welcome group of cheering squads along the 26.2 mile trek.
There were EMT bicycles along the route and post race medical tents at the finish.
The awards ceremony was pretty much non-existent. I believe this is an area that could use improvement.
Overall, an excellent, well organized race. I would definitely run the Duke City again!
