Well done Eident!

This half -marathon takes place entirely on an island near Newport, Rhode Island. Driving to an island in the middle of a fog before sunrise definitely sets a tone.

This race started at an 6:30 in the morning for good reason, the temperature shot up another 15 degrees by the time I finished.

Started my run about 10 minutes after everyone else started. Luckily, I made it over the start just as the start line was being dismantled.

By the way, did you ever see that MCEscher painting where all the stairs keep going up? This is the Jamestown half-marathon.

For the next four miles, due to the fog, and my own glasses fogging, I held my specs in my hand and followed anyone who wore fluorescent compression. But, the fog masked the hills so I was not discouraged by the elevation challenges because I could not see them.

Then 9.1 miles of wonderful pain with lovely views - and done!

No mantra needed for this one - but I did dwell on this thought: It's about time this race was moved from the middle of July to late September - when I last ran this race a few years ago, the heat was not only hot, but the smell of the wildlife during the humidity competed with the taste of my packets of gu.

Aid stations were plentiful, and well stocked - the volunteers were local high school students, and they did a fantastic job.

Swag bag was light in goods, but the shirts were wicking!

Finally, the race end was loaded with post race fruits, bagels, and fluids - the planners were very generous. FREE RACE PHOTOS online! Nice touch - run this one next year folks, you'll get to the finish where dozens of other runners in pain are enjoying bagels.
