I've run this race before, but it's been more than 5 years. Pretty much as good as I remembered!

PROS: Nice shady route, especially the part through Lost Creek Park on the trail. Ample parking since Lost Creek Park (start/finish) is right next to a neighborhood. Easy packet pickup. Great Harvest Bread Co. had ample samples and great coupons.

CONS: Seemed to run out of post race snacks quickly. I finished in just over 44 mins, made a quick stop at the restroom and to check results & door prizes, and all that was left was some cereal bars (there appeared to be a box of bananas stashed for the Family Race finishers). Was disappointed not to get a banana or orange. Portion of race on the trail was a little congested, harder to pass fellow participants when needed.

And, it's just freaking hot in Texas this time of year which is a negative, but not something the organizers could control unless we started earlier ;) Definitely enjoy this race for a July 4 option vs. ones in Houston.

"Too much flair, not enough logistics"

This was my first race post-injury. As an experienced runner, I knew to come prepared with my own water supply. But this race is marketed to a lot of first-timers, and I feel knowing that, one water station at the 1.75 mile mark is unacceptable, especially on a hot, humid Galveston day (it was post two days of storms so especially steamy).

I understand this is one of a franchise of races done all over the country, but I feel organizers should adapt it to needs of different parts of the country. Champagne at the finish line (which I skipped) is not smart when your participants are possibly dehydrated. Plus, I saw children with champagne!

I did share my negative feedback on the logistics with a post race survey, so I hope they take it into account. Until then, I can spend less than $65 on a better run race for the distance.
