I've done all the Air Force marathon races throughout the years. This year I did the half.
Pros:
Expo is always great. (Meb spoke this year)
Parking is plenty (just plan on walking a lot to get to the startline)
Flyovers at the start with the aircraft of the year
Half starts an hour later than the full.
Plenty of port a potties by start and finish (everyone tries to use the potties by the parking lots but there are tons once you are in past security- avoid the line here)
No official corrals, start where you want ( could be a con too)
Water stops were organized & enthusiastic
Finishing by the static aircraft outside the museum
uSAF officers hand out the medals
Medals are always very tasteful,patriotic
Organized, nice midsized race.
Cons:
Every year the shirts are horrible, sized wrong or just ugly.I never wear these shirts.
Parking day of- if you get there really early, you'll be fine.i get there around 5:45-6 for a 8:30 start. I hung out in my car for an hour or so.
After running a full, it's a long painful walk back to the car.
Half starts at 8:30 which is late if it is hot.
Security was more this year. All runners were checked- expect lines
1st two miles are very tight (one lane with a jersey wall on both sides) which made them my slowest and honestly helped me not start out too fast. (Half only, full goes a different direction the 1st mile)
Course is not very pretty, it's mostly on base, so lots of fields and chain link fences (wind can be tough too)
Hill at mile 11-12
Last mile you go past the finish line and have to circle around. It seems to go on forever.
