1000km For Wildlife's thoughts:

Run Australia do a series of events around Australia where 100% of every registration goes directly to a local cause. I have participated in their runs before and I was impressed so I decided to enter the Run Newcastle event on September 13, 2015, where the money raised was for the adolescent ward at our local John Hunter Hospital.

There isn’t an expo for these events, which means more money for the local cause. Race bib pick up is at the local Westfields, for the two days before the event. I am pretty sure you can also pick up your race bib on the morning of the event. I picked up my race bib and free t-shirt the day before the event which was was super easy and quick. There is also a Lorna Jane in the Westfields for any last minute purchases you might need :)

There is a 12km run, 6km run and 6km walk for this event, so there is something for everyone. I entered the 12km event, which start at Nobbys Beach and I found plenty of street parking within a short 15 minute walk to the start line. There is a killer hill at the beginning of the run but then you get a nice downhill run and then the rest of the course is fairly flat running along the water. There are some spectacular views along this run and then you finish at the same spot you started, so no travel problems getting back to the start line. There is no bling at the finish line for this event, however there is lots of food stalls and entertainment for families at the finish precinct. The Bachelor was at the finish line having his photo taken with sweaty participants and Cotton On were handing out bags with a cool t-shirt and visor. Of course being on a Sunday a stop at the local farmers market for breakfast was a must!

I had a great time and raised money for a great local cause - what’s not to love! The awesome views also help keep the legs moving. If there is a Run Australia event in your area you should definitely sign up!!
