On a last-minute whim I decided to enter the Rockin' K Trail Marathon. It was only my second marathon, would be my first trail marathon, and the course description sounded challenging, but the finisher's awards were amazing. And I wanted one of those finisher awards. The course scenery was absolutely gorgeous and the trail offered a varied terrain that included sand, rocks, roots, single-track, and water crossings. The race is hosted by the Kansas Ultrarunner Society, which I have discovered to be an awesome group of people. I drove in to the race from out of town, and I was welcomed by the RD and other runners like I was family. This race was the hardest one I had ever run, at that point in time, and it was totally and completely worth it!
