I ran this race in 2013 and 2014. In 2013, I was frazzled and late and ran super fast. I love to run downhill. The course is very challenging for us flatlanders. Last year, I was training for the Mt Washington Road Race so I did better on the uphills. The race was WAY more competitive this year because it is in the CARA circuit.
The race was in April last year so it had LS tach shirts. The small fit way better than the SS men's small this time. That shirt is huge and for a man. Not great this time!
All of that said, this race is one of my faves. It is super organized, the volunteers could not be nicer, the race director is cool and you have the opportunity to win a rock award from the quarry! They also have a great little spread after with pizza and beer and I think massages. It is a friendly atmosphere. The kid's who volunteer ran in the last few older runners. It made my heart swell. Lemont seems like the kind of place where life is simple.
I highly recommend Quarryman! I also recommend training on some hills. I hope I remember that next winter so I can get a faster time next year (and another rock!!)
