Kelli 's thoughts:

This is a well-organized event and I had attended last year and tackled the 8K Warrior Class where racers run 5K then attempt 5 challenges (Viking style) and then continue on for the remaining 5K. Each year it seems to be hotter than the last with this year topping out at 31 degrees before the humidex! With 5000 kilted racers all lining the streets and heading off through the small town of Perth, Ontario. Great prize of a trip to Scotland and each participant receives a timing bib (custom) and tee shirt. This year each participant's last name appears on the shirt, a nice touch! Each racer has the option to purchase that year's kilt and it must match the rules/standards with the length, pleats, and buckles. Kilts and bibs were picked up at different locations this year and it made for a bit a struggle having to go between two places and there was a bit of a line up for race kit pick up the day of the event. Lots of entertainment, music, food and contests entertain racers and spectators throughout the day. In the evening the race begins with a quick speech, prayer, and the National Anthem and then racers are entertained briefly by a professional fiddler until the pistols are fired and they are off! The residents line the streets and offer racers, quick snacks, sprinklers and water along the course. The town is very quaint and the route has little to no elevation so it is a fast course. Prizes for the top competitors and a nice riverside location with lots of restaurants and stores to entertain those waited at the finish line. 'Zoom photos' is quick with posting online and the results are easily accessed that night by The Running Goat.
