Donna Cantrell's thoughts:

Hey runners! Looking for a Long Island run with an easy price tag? Choose the New York State Summer Run Series. Tier One entrants (who purchase a bib for 8 races for $70) will find that the Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve 5K offers a scenic and historic course (a Gold Coast site listed on the National Register of Historic Places). With mild grading, the sometimes uneven path winds past salt marshes, a horse farm, and bird habitat. Unfortunately, water stops during this year's series have been spotty, and due to 80 degree temperatures ta the start, an additional stop would have been appreciated. Post-race goodies include chips, apple sauce, water, SODA (why??), and typically a cup of light beer is included. Unfortunately, the beer truck did not make it to this race! Tailgating on this beautiful preserve is an added bonus; be sure to have your family/spectators bring folding chairs and blankets. (Advise them that opportunities for spectating along the course are limited.)
