Amanda TheSwagMama's thoughts:

I love the inspirational message of this race! "Never quit living life to the fullest". The expo was the day before at First Place Sports. It was a little congested, so it's kind of an in-and-out deal. The race was held in May with two different time options - but both in the morning and both hot. The run is held on the beach, so it provides great scenery - but again it's pretty hot and running in the sand makes it a bit of a challenge. Parking is also a bit of a challenge, you are better off parking down the street and walking a few blocks. After the race, there are lots of refreshments and you can sit and watch the "Battle of the Beach" and "Warrior Challenge" events take place. I will say this race is quite expensive - around $70, which is kind of insane for a 5k. But you get a shirt and decent necklace for the girls, and sunglasses for the men. You get to choose which ones you want and we were presented our finisher items by the Marines on a red carpet. Last year, I received a sea turtle necklace...this year, I chose the pink dog tag necklace. They also sometimes have a celebrity do an opening prayer or inspirational speech beforehand. Last year, it was Nick Vujicic...this year, it was Bethany Hamilton. Overall, this is a fun and challenging race. I loved seeing all of the patriotism and camaraderie! My only complaints were the price and heat.
