Missoula Marathon was voted #1 by BibRave & you simply just have to experience it for yourself to see why! 3 Races. Gifts. Swag. Heavy Medals - this race has it all!
Packet Pick Up:
Day 1 - Beer Run
From my hotel, I walked to Caras Park - the center of all things Missoula Marathon for the weekend. Instead of getting my packet right away, I waited until after the Beer Run.
The Beer Run took us around The University of Montana & back to Caras Park. At the finish line, we got a beer koozie & free beer! After getting my free beer, I headed to the Pavilion, where the Expo Vendors & Packet materials were. Everything was super organized, so it was easy to grab what I needed for both the 5K & Half. The vendors were amazing & offering great deals - so I was able to pick up a few items before heading back to the hotel.
Course Route/Elevation:
Day 2- 5K
The 5K runs along the banks of the Clark Fork River & taking you back to Caras Park.
Day 3 - Half Marathon
The Half Marathon begins at the halfway point of the Marathon route, and winds through the hills of Missoula before taking you right into the heart of downtown Missoula for the finish (which happened to be the Start Line for the 5K).
Swag:
The Big 3 Challenge is when you run all 3 races over the weekend - Beer Run, 5K & Half (or the Marathon). Instead of a 3rd medal, I received a commemorative magnet that was just as heavy & beautiful as the medals I received for both the 5K & the Half. The 5K tee was cotton while the Half tee was a tech tee. After the race there was more free beer from Big Sky Brewing Co & free food! Did I mention there were also FREE race photos?
Summary:
What I like most about this race isn't the race itself, but everything surrounding the race. Missoula is aboslutely beautiful & everyone in town is proud of this race - and it shows! The folks are friendly, the scenery is stunning & there are so many activities like hiking & rafting that you can do after the race! Be sure to take Friday & Monday off so you can spend 4 wonderful days in Big Sky Country!
