First race after races started back since the pandemic and it was amazing!
The expo was held Thursday and Friday at Kincaid park about 15 minutes from downtown Anchorage. I drove to pick up the race packet, the expo was just one small area with the race merchandise. The t-shirt that came with the race runs a bit big. This could be due to COVID-19 precautions, not sure how previous years away. Kincaid park is beautiful to loom around. I didn’t spend too much time on my feet with the race the next day.
Race morning we 50 people started every 5 minutes. Plenty of Port-a potties available and plenty of space to warm up. It was a quick a kid easy start.
The race it self started at the park went downhill, onto a bike trail, some road and then surprise, surprise an actual technical trail portion for almost a mile. Rolling hill the first 6 miles, the trail portion had one steep incline and a very steep decline that I decided to walk. We got back on the bike trail just before mile 7 and it was paved rest of the way to an uphill finish!
Even with the trail, light rain and a hilly course, it was ana amazing experience. Even a moose ran right by us! The trail although not expected (a surprise to many) it added to the Alaskan race experience. Very organized, great volunteers and I had a great time!
