Come January 28, all eyes will be on the main event - the Miami Marathon & Half Marathon. Come out and explore all the wonderful things that make Miami famous. The Miami Marathon & Half Marathon takes you through the streets of Miami starting in front of the Miami Heat arena, to scenic Miami Beach, through the Wynwood art district and back to mainland Miami for a grand finish in the lovely downtown bay area.

Every year, we pay tribute to the star of the show — the course. Runners count on the course to pull them through each mile, and every year this route doesn’t let them down. Mile after mile, the beautiful views help propel runners to the finish line. Be on the lookout for sights that you might recognize from a hit TV show or movie - many of those hot spots are actually part of this incredible course!

Friends, family and curious spectators will fill the roadways with inspiring sights and sounds to cheer on the many that choose to RUN MIAMI! Register today to ensure your #MiamiFamous moment as we kick off 2018 with this spectacular event. It's #NotMiamiWithoutYou!

John 's thoughts:

You're in South Florida in the middle of winter. What else is there to say? This is my favorite marathon to run. I love that you get a chance to meet so many people from different countries, mostly Central/Sourh America. Of course Florida is flat so the course is as well. You start at the Triple A (Home of the Miami Heat), run thru South Beach, back to downtown Miami, through Coconut Grove and back to Bayfront Park. The course crosses Biscayne Bay 3 times. It is the most scenic course to run. The downside was that it was a humid and warm weekend which made my time slower than I planned.
I go to the expo on Saturday in SoBe then head up to Gulfstream Park for some live horse racing. Takes my mind off the marathon! But the race goes off at 6am the following day so I am in bed very early Sat nite. It is funny parking 4:30am at a garage in SoBe and having people who have drunk all nite (and are probably drunk as a skunk) wishing me luck as I am walking to catch the shuttle to the start.
But what made this race special was that this was held the same day as the Super Bowl. My beloved Seahawks were in it and were playing 25 miles from home. I was wearing a Seahawks tech shirt and had a lot of spectators wishing me luck. After the race I got back to the hotel, took a nap, and enjoyed one of my best nites as a sports fan.
The only negatives,if any, could be parking and the weather if you are not prepared to run in warmer temperatures than what you've been training in. But it's worth the trip. Again Florida in wintertime!
